When replacement is the better choice

Repair suits a local fault in a sound system. Replacement suits gutters that crack, sag or leak in several places, because patching them again and again costs more over time. Our comparison of gutter repair versus replacement helps you decide.

Neglect shortens the life of any system. Gutters that stay blocked for years carry extra weight and overflow onto the fascia. As a result, they fail early. Our article on what happens if you don't clean your gutters shows the chain of damage.

What we supply and fit

  • New uPVC, aluminium or cast iron guttering to suit your home
  • New brackets, unions, stop ends and outlets
  • New downpipes where the old ones are damaged
  • Removal of the old guttering and disposal of the waste

We check the fascia as we remove the old gutters. If a board is rotten, we tell you before we fit anything new, because new gutters on a bad board will not last. Our gutter repair page explains smaller fixes that may save you a full replacement.

Choosing a material

uPVC is the most common choice and typically the cheapest per metre. Cast iron costs far more and suits period homes, although it needs regular care. Aluminium typically costs more than uPVC in national price guides. Our guide to uPVC versus cast iron guttering compares them in detail.

Listed homes need extra care. Historic England says changing rainwater goods, for example swapping cast iron for plastic, may need listed building consent. Check with the local council before you replace anything on a listed building.

Any new system must still drain the roof properly. Part H3 of the Building Regulations requires adequate provision for rainwater to be carried from the roof of a building. We size and slope the new run with that in mind.

Looking after new gutters

New gutters last longer when you keep them clear, because debris adds weight and holds water. A yearly clean in autumn stops it building up. Our gutter cleaning service covers that, and we can quote for it when we fit your new system.

Typical gutter replacement prices

uPVC, per metre fitted
£30 – £70
Whole house in uPVC
£1,000 – £1,600
Cast iron, per metre
£50 – £130+

These are typical UK ranges from national price guides, not a promise of our own price. Replacing all the guttering on a typical house in uPVC usually costs somewhere around £1,000 to £1,600. Cast iron varies widely, while ornate period profiles cost more.

House size, height and the number of downpipes all change the total. Because of that, we give you a free fixed quote before we start. You know the full cost up front. Our pricing guide explains how we quote.

Where we replace gutters

We fit new guttering in Coventry and the surrounding towns. Because we are based in Coventry CV1, nearby jobs are quick to reach. We take jobs in gutter cleaning in Kenilworth, about 8 miles from the city centre, and in our Warwick gutter service and gutter cleaning in Leamington Spa, both about 11 miles away. Closer to home, we also cover gutter cleaning in Bedworth at about 7 miles.

Further out, we work in gutter cleaning in Nuneaton, about 10 miles away, as well as our Rugby gutter service and gutter cleaning in Hinckley, at 14 and 13 miles. Since all seven towns sit inside our 20-mile service area, a quote costs you nothing wherever you live.

Frequently asked questions

How much does gutter replacement cost? +
Replacing uPVC guttering typically costs about £30 to £70 per metre fitted, and a whole house in uPVC usually comes to around £1,000 to £1,600. Cast iron costs more. We give a free fixed quote first, and our pricing page has more detail.
Which gutter material is best for my home? +
uPVC suits most modern homes and costs less. Cast iron suits period homes but needs more care and costs far more. Read uPVC versus cast iron guttering before you choose.
Do you take away the old gutters? +
Yes. We remove the old guttering and dispose of the waste as part of the job.
Do I need permission to replace gutters on a listed building? +
Possibly. Historic England says changing rainwater goods on a listed building may need listed building consent, and each case is judged individually. Ask your local council before you replace anything.
Can I just repair the gutters instead? +
Often you can, if the fault is local. We tell you honestly which route makes sense. Our gutter repair page covers what we can fix without a full replacement.
